Let's Take A Virtual Field Trip....Anywhere Around The World With These Amazing Experiences, Apps and Websites!

Last week I went on a field trip with Hagan and his 5th grade friends.
We visited the Iowa State Capital, Des Moines Art Center, and the Pappajohn Sculpture Garden.  It was such a wonderful day full of learning, wondering, sharing and fun!

Hagan and I talked about the day over the weekend.  We thought about how lucky we were to have such a special day and how awesome it would be to have more days at school like that one.

Today with so much access to technology, networking tools, and innovation anything is possible and we can take our students so many places around the world without leaving our library or classroom.
My favorite place to go for Virtual Field Trips is Skype in the Classroom.   On this page you can Find A Virtual Field Trip, See a Virtual Field Trip In Action or Host a Virtual Field Trip.
It is amazing to see all of the Virtual Field Trips which are easy to search by age group, subject, country, language and more.  You can bring so many experiences and opportunities to your students through these field trips.
With Veteran's Day coming up on November 11, Skype in the Classroom has brought together several places to visit through virtual field trips about military history.  You can find them here.
Over the weekend I also came across this list of Virtual Field Trip Apps and Websites on the Common Sense Graphite website.

WOW!  I just love all of the apps and websites that are available.  The learning opportunities are endless.

You can see this list here and even save it to your Common Sense Graphite account.
One of my favorite sites is Google Art Project.
I found the Denver Art Museum and showed Hagan all of the art we would see when we visited this winter.  What a powerful virtual field trip for any classroom, especially art and music classrooms and teachers.

Here are a few more virtual field trips...
Inside The White House Virtual Tour...
4-H Virtual Farm...
PolarHusky.com...
and Smithsonian Natural Museum of Natural History Virtual Tour.
It would be fun to use Scholastic's Global Trek Journal with these virtual field trips too.  Your students can start a travel journal based on the places they virtually visit.

There is just so much out there....Take a look and see where you can take your students around the world.  I can't wait to hear what you find.
And Hagan and I can't wait to see where we will visit and learn about next too.
